ELECTRATHON
WHAT IS ELECTRATHON?
Electrathon is a multi-disciplinary STEM initiative that allows students to design, build, and race EV go-karts. This hands-on program encourages innovation as students apply their creativity in a practical setting, while encouraging teamwork, problem solving, and critical thinking.
WHAT DOES COMMITMENT LOOK LIKE?
FPL provides comprehensive support for a team during its foundational year. This donation includes an EV-build kit, training, first-year educator stipend and ongoing support to selected schools. Participants will attend a one-day kick-off training and at least one race in their first year, while regularly maintaining contact with FPL on the progress and completion of their build.
WHAT HAPPENS AT A RACE?
On race day, students showcase their EV creations by participation in two hour-long endurance competitions where distance traveled is measured over outright speed. Schools with the most efficient vehicles prevail. This style of race inspires cooperation at venues across Florida, including several renown speedways.
HOW ARE SCHOOLS AND TEAMS SELECTED?
FPL works closely with district level administrations to identify schools that may have an opportunity to incorporate Electrathon into their STEM education. Selected educators will have a CTE and STEM background to fit the Electrathon mission. Interested in forming a team? Contact us.
